Background
The Essex Society of Genealogists, Inc. (ESOG) has served Massachusetts' and New England's genealogical community with live educational presentations, genealogical projects, and publications to facilitate research in this fascinating, historical region.
Founded in 1975, as a chapter of the Massachusetts Society of Genealogists, ESOG became an independent society in 1981. The Society is home based at the Marcia Wiswall Lindberg Room of the Lynnfield Public Library. The collection includes approximately 3000 volumes of genealogies and town histories. Also in the collection, are complete runs of the Massachusetts vital records in printed form and on microfiche, microfilm of Essex County census, early probate, and deed records, and many journals and genealogical periodicals. The genealogy reading room also houses some sources for other areas outside of Essex county, such as greater New England, New York, and Atlantic Canada.
Educational Programs
Our meetings are held at the Centre Congregational Church, 5 Summer Street, Lynnfield, MA. Parking is available at rear of the building off Main Street.
Meetings feature a social hour from noon to 1 pm with a BYO luncheon. At 1 pm, there may be a very brief business meeting, followed immediately by an educational program. While we offer the social time, it is not a requirement to be present for the entire time. We welcome those who choose to attend the educational program only.
